20180411_214208.jpg Hi everyone! My friend bought this fish in a pet store, to me it looks like a regular blood parrot but the guy at the store sold it to him as a king kong parrot. It was really red when he bought it but 3 weeks later he is starting to look orange and it looks like is missing scales, otherwise he looks healthy.
My friend gave it to me and i brought him home in put him in a 40 gallon tank already cycled and plenty of filtration all the water parameters are perfect and he is been feed hikari cichlid pellets. I am suspecting this is one of those fish they dye/tattoo that is why of the missing scales but i hope someone with more experience with this type of fish can help. he was in a 20 gallon tank at my friends house by himself and i tested his water and it was fine. Now he is by himself in the 40 gallon hoping he recovers so i can move him to a 90 gallon tank with an 4" oscar. 20180411_214419.jpg

I don't know, but stress from moving, or new food, or bad water can make fish fade.

thanks for replying. i am sure is not bad water because i have tested my water and it is perfect. it was like this when i got him from my friend what worries me is that he hasn't gotten better.

Regular BP - how long have you had it now? Parrot fish can fade & change color on a whim, but loss of scales isn't normal. Add a handful of kosher salt to the water, that may help with slime coat and scale recovery.

do you mind me asking what is the difference between a king kong parrot and a regular. some people say is the mouth and some the colors.
Also I'll try the salt right away.

I would not add Melafix while medicating, it can potentially form a film and reduce 02 levels. Not something you want when dealing with a sick fish. I wish that I could tell you exactly what's wrong with your fish, but I have no idea.
