I just bought 2 kissing fish from pet smart, about 1.5 inch each. One of them has this scal groth starting near its tail and the other just started to loose a chunk of tail. They where perfectly fine at the store. I know I bought 3 before and 2 of them go this growth and died. Once their bigger, like 3 inches, they seem to be imune to everything. 2 options.....

Take the fish with the "growth" out and gently use a tooth bruch on the effected area to remove it.

Add salt to the tank... I have:

Kissing fish
Convicts
Green Terror
Skunk loaches
Bullhead Cat
Bumblebee Cat
Tiger barbs

All in that tank.(soon to be seperated) if I added some salt, will it hurt the scaleless fish? How much salt should I add if any?

I would add salt. You figure if you introduced the fish into the tank the fungus is present as well.

It won't bother any of the guys in there because you won't actually be increasing the salinity/specific gravity high enough to push the tank brackish. You can use aquarium salt for treatment as well as an electrolyte supplement. The dose is usually 1 tablespoon for 5 gallons. I find salt being the safest treatment with catfish anyway...it's usually the medications that affect scaleless fish.

Best of luck.

I got a baby moonlight recently that lost 1/2 of it's tail, in a and i'm guessing here a battle with the eegg. Treated with myaxzin and now is back to 100% if that helps Z

Well, one of them died last night. I seperated the two in a 20G. I slowly added salt to the tank. I thought it was like 1 TBSP per gallon! And I put so much I lost count. The one thats alive has no tail and its progressing towards the front.

From now on the will use that Myaxzin from now on. These fish are such a pain to keep alive.
