knife fish activity

my 8 inch knifefish as of like 3 weeks ago was perfectly fine and very active, but recently he's only been active during feedings and the res of the time he sits at the bottom of the tank, what is up?
 
he stays in the same spot all the time?, but no its a bare tank, but i didnt think it mattered cuz before he was very active
 
Try putting something such as a pvc pipe, or something that he can 'retreat' to when he wants. It sounds like he is stressed from being out in the open, and he has given up on trying to hide. His high rate of activity before could have been due to him looking for a place to hide.

Just a thought. I hope you figure something out.
 
if there are other fish bullying the knife, then the knife will just sit in the same spot all the time.... but if there are no fish bullying him, then he will swim and be active at all times. may depend also on your aquarium lights... if too bright, the knife may become inactive and hide.
 
They like to hide, but when it comes to feeding time, they know. Seems pretty normal. It might've just settled into it's surroundings.
 
thanks for the help all, ill put some pvc pipe in there for him, and i doubt he's getting bullied, i have a 3inch red zebra with him and a pleco, so lol, nothin there, ill try getting a different bulb as well, make it a bit dimmer
