I installed a 2" knife valve on my main drain for my tank to throttle it to reduce noise. When I throttle the flow the valve starts to hum (I assume the pendulum is vibrating inside the valve?). I talked to the company I bought it from and they said it is bi-directional so it shouldn't matter which way it faces. Does anyone have any ideas how to correct this?

Weird. We use 16" knife valves for our tanks at work and I don't think they do that. Most of the humming comes from our pumps and stuff. But be warned, they have split apart for us, killing tens of thousands of fish. Since then we have reinforced all of them with brackets and/or clamps, which has made them work without issue for years.

I don't remember the exact gpm on the pump, but they are 100,000g systems that include 4 tanks and a sump. The knife valves are used to control flow distribution between the tanks. So you may not have such issues with pressure buildup lol.
