Knifefish for fry control?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Breeding Cichlids are pretty aggressive. Depending on the tank size, those Cichlids will probably kill anything that is in it's territory and threat to it's fry. What kind of Cichlids are we talking about? Tank size?

Put a 6" bichir (choose your flavor) and it'll make those tasty fry go absent... And they are preety much left alone by cichlids if they are big enough... You shouldn't keep the PH too high as they prefer a PH less than 8.

PH 7.2/ 6FT 125G/ driftwood/rocks/caves/ green terrors(pair)/ australoheros red ceibal(group) and small group of G Altifrons. All less than four inches.

x2, had my 5" Senegal in with a few 1/2"+ Saulosi Cichlid fry... lost four in two days, lol.

get a pleco and it will just eat the eggs before they hatch

I'd be worried about that bichir getting too big and killing some of your cichlids. I had a senegal that murdered a 4 inch iridescent shark when it was only 7 inches. An African knifefish might work in your setup if you get it big enough, like 6 inches.

get a large aba aba and it'll eat them all. Or an electric eel. But for only the fry... try a clown knife. It might do the job, but then it could get bullied, or vice versa, it would eat everything.
