Hey all,
I bought this as a tiger. At first I thought that they were zebras, but now I'm unsure. They were only 3" so I got a pretty good deal on a tiger, or paid a little too much for a zebra. Either way, they are very nice fish and I'm happy with the purchase, but I just want a positive ID. I can't get a picture from the top, they are always hiding and only come out for a second before they're gone. It looks like they are getting some markings on top of the head, but it's hard to tell. The person that I purchased these from is very knowledgeable, and he says that they are definitely tigers. He's brought in tigers, zebras and other rare knifefish in the past.
If I can't get a positive ID, I'll just sit back and wait for them to get bigger. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how these guys turn out.
Thanks

Thanks, Kev. I don't think it's carapo. Carapo usually have a bit of a deeper body, but it'll be easier to tell once they get a bit more size.

Gymnotus Coatesi maybe?.... I think I might have to wait until they get some more size on them.

Any other ideas? I'm not ruling out carapo yet because they are so small; I am leaning towards zebra though, gymnotus pedanopterus.

Haha that's true, but if they're zebras I'd go and pick up some more since I've kept them in groups in the past. If they're tigers, then I won't bother, since I hear they don't tolerate each other.
