How long can Knifefish go without food? I have been away and a neighbor feeds my fish but only flakes and algae pellets not the normal bottom feeder pellets that they eat. I've been gone for 4 days now.

What kind of knife and how big?

A healthy fish can live for months and months without eating. I vaguely remember a scientific study, that stated an eel survived for about 5 years sans food.

I've had fish that would stop eating for several months then one day just started eating again. I have a Rotkiel severum and a C. boucourti that both did this in the past and they are doing just fine today. I've also gone on vacations, for up to 2 weeks, and just let all the fish fast and never had an issue.

yep. My 18" clown knife has gone well over a month w/o food. I was trying to pellet train my jardini by starving it and didn't feed the entire tank. All the fish in that tank are fine, dang jardini still not taking pellets lol

My BGK loves algae wafers. He will chase away the corys and serpaes from them. I am sure yours ate plenty

As mentioned above, healthy adult fish can go a long time without food.
You want to keep juveniles feed, though, for healthy development. They can still starve for a week or two if they're not hatchlings. Just don't do it regularly to juveniles.
