I agree with X. Nigri being the smallest knife fish that's readily sold, but they reach an average of 8"

Gymnotus pantherinus has a max size of about 13 cm, (so says fishbase). That's about the smallest I know of.

Are you asking because you want to have a knife in a smaller aquarium?
If so, I would honestly say that a 50 gallon tank necessary for the X. Nigri, (African Knife).
Its a rule that knife fish need their space but also need room to swim and enjoy life.

ok thanks. i got my puffer instead so i wont be getting a african knife anytime soon.
