Hey everyone. I posted a while ago about sucking tank water to get it going and getting a mouthful of dirty tank water. Well, I bought one of those kits that has 2 hoses, a gravel cleaner, and a squeeze pump to get the water going. Stop reading this if you get grossed out. Anyways, the other day, I went to do a water change and one end of the plastic gravel cleaner broke off because something heavy fell on one of the plastic ends that the tube connects to. So now I have to do it the old fashion way like I posted before by sucking on the tube to get the water going and getting a mouth full of dirty water. Now here's the gross part. I was busy keeping an eye on the tube in the bucket from coming out and having water all over the floor. I sucked on the end of the tube and didn't know that some of the gravel got sucked up and of course I swallowed the gross water again but this time I also swallowed some grave. I went to the bathroom to throw up the dirty water and gravel. The next day, went to the bathroom to do what I had to do, and I didn't know whether to throw up again or be fascinated that my poop had different colors of gravel in it:WHOA:. Like eating peanuts and finding it in your poop. I can't believe that the hardest thing that I have to keeping fish is doing a water change:cry:.

I choose fascinated!;) But don't be fascinated for too long...otherwise it starts to get "weird"!;)

FYI...there are other ways of getting the siphoning action started without sucking on the tube:

- one way is to dunk the hose in the water (fill the hose with water). Like this video:

- 2nd way...watch this video:

Hope this helps.

Yup..that is the most cheapest and safer way..i guess lot of us do the same thing,..

It didn't look that. I was just kidding:grinno:

No pics. This is nasty but let me describe it. Think of a chocolate banana covered with sprinkles!!!

Why not get a python or similar sink-hookup water changer? they come in some good lengths and you'll never have to deal with this. Or just get like, a longer tube to give yourself more time after you suck in. It ain't that tough.

I now use the kind that has a pump you squeeze to get the water going. No more rinsing my mouth with Listerine!!!
