For a year now I have 2 kois that are the alpha-males in my pond. Each is about 35cm long and when I feed my koi that start fighting:

Has anyone seen this behavior?

try to spread out where you feed them, and if they don't stop just seperate them for a while. I've only seen this behavior when my koi's are spawning and they want a female. I'm not sure what they are doing in your case.

Have never seen that before...

It doesn't seem to violent, but you should still keep an eye on them.

Does it ever result in any skin/scale loss or damage?

No damage to either. They only fight head on with their mouths. Only observed at feeding time.
