Any Canadian members interested in Koi grow out competition based out of Toronto, Canada?
Trying to ignite some interest in the Canadian koi seen, Toronto has very few quality dealers, zero koi clubs, zero shows. Have a dealer who would be willing to secure koi for grow out competiition (Mid May 2012), and who is willing to put a panel together to judge. We have discussed basic grow out rules/conditions, however as of now still just an idea and not a reality.

So far discussed bringing in 10 inch showa tosai. Would like to gauge interest before he secures a number of fish from Japanese farm.

Any suggestions in regards to rules, farm to secure stock from, possible prizes, anything really. Something new so all suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

I personally think growout challenges should start 4". They are a more affordable size. Plus when you state tosai that means 1 year old or less....don't think you can find a 10" one year old. If you do $$$$$$$
Perhaps sticking with GoSanke to start is good. This includes the top three popular variety Kohaku, Sanke, Showa. For judging criteria Koi USA magazine is good reference. Koi show winners from the US and Japan are shown. Tips are also given. KoiNation magazine is also good but I believe they may not be around anymore. Give Taro at Kodama Koi Farm (Hawaii) a call. His family in Japan is a big koi exporter. I'm sure he will be willing to hook you up.

Thank you for the input. Will definitely check out magazines for more info. We also considered 4 inch fish we just thought with our already shortened growing season the 10 inch would have more of an impact. Definitely something to consider. Thanks again.

Bummer on the short growing season. I can see why the low interest then.
