ok well my uncle has a 1200 galon pond...He did a full water change and kept his 13 koi in a 65 galon pond temporarily....how long should he wait before he puts the koi back into the 1200 galon..If they are scratching themselves does that mean it is too early...it's been about a week...

not sure what your asking

are you letting the water age to get rid of the chlorine?

yes that means they are getting irritated with the water... or they have a internal parasite problem... u porbably put the koi in too early if you didnt add any dechlorinizer!

the water from the 65 gallon came from the water from the big pond....then we did a full change of water put huge amounts of chlorine remover and waited a week....mean while the 65 gallon water stayed outside as well so that there was no temparature difference

Just out of curiosity why did your uncle change all of the pond water. I have roughly the same size pond and usually never change more than half the water at a time.

The water isnt what contains the beneficial bacteria. The filter does, so if that many fish are in an uncycled 65 gal tank for a week, they could have been dealing with some ammonia, combined with the shock of completely new water, they might have been stressed enough to pick up some ich or such. Flashing is a common symptom. I'd watch to make sure they don't develop white or cloudy spots.
If it was something having to do with chemicals in the water, they'd likely be gasping at the surface rather than rubbing on things.

I put my koi in right after I had water in my pond...they neutralized all the chlorine in the water. They were fine at first for about a week and then they started dying...only half of them survive. They stop dying after a month. My guess is that my pond has not completely cycle and were prone to bacteria etc.

There are a few different products you can buy to help the cycle speed up. If not water changes would be a big key.
