Two part question

1. I read that koi pellets can be a good mix into their diet. Any suggestions on the brand ? was gonna go with eco labs

2 also want to introduce aquatic based veggies as I am now understanding its better than romaine, which my guy loves. So if I can grow java moss on a consistent basis would it be ok to feed ? Any suggestions on how to grow it at an optimal rate ? If not java moss any other suggestions?

java moss is supposed to be pretty fish safe. my gourami does pick at it, but he passes it undigested.

Hey Frank, personally I would pass, even if offered to me for free.

The ingredient list reads like most lower quality farm feeds. Lots of wheat, soybean, corn, etc. These are the exact types of terrestrial based plant matter that I have been attempting to explain to you that one should NOT be feeding in large amounts, to any species of fish, herbivores or otherwise. Especially juvenile fish such as you have that are still in their growth stage of life.

Dicalcium Phosphate, Brewers Dried Yeast, Apple, Broccoli, Apricot, Green Cabbage, Kiwi, Red
Cabbage, Mango, Peas, Zucchini, Spinach, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate, Spirulina, Betaine anhydrous, Salt, Choline Chloride, Yellow 5 Lake, Ethoxyquin (preservative), Astaxanthin,(color), Bacillus licheniformis fermentation product, Bacillus subtilis fermentation product, Vitamin E supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, DCalcium Pantothenate, Niacin, Folic Acid, Riboflavin, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex, Biotin, Vitamin D3 supplement, Manganese Sulfate, Cobalt Carbonate, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide, Ferrous Sulfate, Sodium Selenite, Vitamins A supplement, Vitamin B12 supplement.

Even the manufacturers recommend this product as a "Supplemental Food", that should only be feed part time. Personally, I wouldn't feed it to my fish at all.

Thanks neil.
I guess im just looking to give them the best diet i can. What do you think about the java moss. Only thinking to use it because im gonna make a moss carpet in another tank and figure i could grow it and add to his diet.

I give him romain once a week and he devours it.

I have no idea what the nutrient profile of java moss is.

I'm really not too sure why anyone would consciously choose to feed their fish a food where the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th ingredients listed by dry weight are terrestrial based plant matter. (wheat, soy, corn) I could understand it if they lived in a 3rd world country and that's all that was available, but other than that ....

I find no compelling reason not to feed grain based fish food to ornamental pet fish . Fairly hard to find a pellet that doesn't use grain for a binder . IMO
