Are they japanese strain or domestic strain? Do you keep them outdoors? I have use the same thing for winter. When I bring them indoors. One year some kids broke ice on my 4 ft deep pond and all the first went to top of pond and died. So now keep indoors for winter also heard this year might be the worst winter and im located in joliet il. so its going to be bad. Very nice fish in 1,3 and last pic. Is he a butterfly. If so his tail and fins seem short.

do they freeze if they go to the top?

my dad used to have a koi pond and he would always drill a small hole or 2 in the top, when it freezes. is this bad? i would think youd need some gas exchange even if the fishes system is basically shut down
