Well today I finally decided to take the plunge and start building a Koi Pond in the back yard, got it all layed out and looking how i wanted it, then started going to town with a shovel, and a whole lot of water! Its about 21' long, and 11' wide at its widest point and will have varying depth levels throughout the pond with the shallow end being 10-12", going to 22", then the deep end being about 3' deep. I got the shallow end pretty much done today and started the transition to the 22" around the island, still alot of work to do though!! Doing the quick math the pond came out to over 2000G! Couple pics from today:

Im new to the whole pond thing, so if anyone has any suggestions for fish in a non-heated setup other than Koi let me know! Im in Ny, so winters do get pretty cold, and I dont want to drain/remove fish every winter if at all possible. Leave any constructive criticism or comments.

i suggest the shallow end deeper than 12" . better temp stability and safer from grabby critters . lookin sweet though !
Ok, you think 18'' would be deep enough? And do you think 3' is deep enough to keep the fish in over the winter months?

Exciting! Can't wait to see it progress.
Thanks!

i'm in cali so i don't know much about your winter requirements other than deeper is better . good circulation should help though ...i was thinking more of the summer heat in the shallow , i think algae could be an issue

Yeah I am worried about the algae alot b/c the pond will see a good amount of sunlight during the day. Might plant a couple small trees around it to give some shade if necessary.

Looking great. I would go 4 feet in the deep part and make it a little bit larger. Then 2 feet in the shallow part. That's just me. I'm not the one digging though.
