Koi Sword-Tails...

Why are these guys so damn expensive and so hard to find? Are they rare or just hard to breed or what?

Also these.. Red line torpedo denisonii barbs.. My LFS sell them at 2" for around eight pounds each, seems pricey... Again why is this?? can anyone enlighten me please??

Thanks.

With the redline torpdo barbs thats a OK price mine sells for 4 for £20 but they are gonr in seconds, normal price for them are 2 for £45 or 4 for £50, they's are all different shopd ive seen them in. they are realy nice fish i had 10 now 6 due to sickness(quite sensitive) and a hungry jag which ate one 1" bigger than itself lol couldnt swollow it holebut tried. also when i saw that happen i went to remove them and it took around 30mins to catch 3, very fast.....our LFS has a display tank they are all around 6" and they have around 40 with breeding koi and atum angels with candoras and 1ft+plecos....looks amazing

not sure about the koi sword tails but denisonii barbs used to be rare so price increase. I've seen more and more at lfs lately so i wouldn't be surprised if the price started dropping. they are cool fishes though. too bad i don't have space for some.

a 2" will still run about $20USD though

Thanks for the info lads!

davidefc you have to try and get a pic of that tank, it sounds amazing!!!! My LFS's display tank is bloody awful, few tired looking Oscar's and some really tacky ornaments... They actually have (you won't believe this) an ornament of a dead fish laying sideways... Why would anyone selling fish put that in their tank?

I can go without those swordtails... But the Red line torpedo's, I like them more and more every time I see them... From what your saying, best to have a fair few of them?

shoefreak03 - I hope you right, their lovely looking fish and nice and lively too... Fingers crossed we start to see more and for friendlier prices! :)

The Law of Supply and Demand comes into play, Peter.;) Both are not frequently available and the supply is not often that high as you think hence the price increase. Besides, I believe the demand for both fish is incredibly high as well.
