i was hand feeding my fish today and i noticed my koi on his left side near the end of his stomach had a white spot bout size of a dime. looks like couple scales missing, spot is protruding a bit like its a sore. its not red or pink at all its completely white but some of the scales that are there are still orange. what is this? i thought maybe he scratched himself on the cinderblock i had in there so i took it out. he likes to hang out in the cinderblock alot. should i just let it heal on its own or should i hospitalize him?

hes not that big, hes like 7-8in w/o tail. the sore could be smaller than a dime i was just stating a size resemblance. i went ahead and treated with some melafix, melafix couldnt hurt.

Is it fuzzy?

If treating, try to remove the fish to another hospital tank. This helps w/stress levels for the other fish. I always treat the fish and not the pond. If the water quality is good and other fish seem healthy, remove the sick one and treat seperatly. That way you can get a good look at it and watch the fish closly.

Sounds like and ulcer/Aeromonas. It is all ponds. They can attack a fish in an area that the mucus or scales have been damaged.

good news i hope...i came out to feed them this morning and his sore went completely flat its still white as his scales didn't grow back just yet. i didnt notice the spot being fuzzy at all. the reason i dosed the pond was i was worried it was a bacterial problem and melafix said its like a antibacterial. it was only 1 dose i gave the pond. im not going to be dosing anymore though. fish seems to be getting better fast. fish swims fast eats as normal everything seems good.
