Have two silver aros, they measure about 2.5 feet. Here's one of them:

They are in a 10ft round indoor pond (pond build thread in my sig), they were rescues a month back and live currently with a pair of similarly sized ID sharks and one foot long Gray Giant Gourami. All is well and everyone is getting along (except for minor spats between the 2 silvers who grew up together in a 100G) until I decided to buy some Koi over the weekend, just wanted to get some color in the pond I guess.

I got 4 pcs foot long ones, and a white one that was a bit smaller. After putting them in the pond, 1 of the silvers started chasing the small white one, I had to net him in and put him quickly in one of the grow out tanks before he became lunch.

(not actual picture.. :))

Here's my problem: This is my first time to take care of kois and I didn't realize that they were constant swimmers, they swim kinda fast and hard too. My pair of silver aros seem to be easily spooked by these 4 kois as when they school together and when they swin towards the aros, the aros get spook, splash the surface and dart away.

Did I make a wrong decision in adding kois to my pond? Will the aros eventually "accept" the kois for who they are and get used to these busy bodies? Or should I immediately get rid of the kois lest the silvers end up jumping? Yikes.

Currently, I cover the pond with a big tarp at night and uncover it during the day, but today, I left the tarp on.

Inputs please...

try it for a week and see of arowanas adjust. if not get rid of the kois and add p.bass

I have seen koi and aros mixed in ponds before, they should adjust. I love t5hose pics by the way.

aren't kois a coldwater fish... and arowanas a tropical fish?
 thought this was pretty well known, but you see the mix every once and awhile.

So which fish are going to suffer and be kept outside of their temp range?

The temp in the pond will be around: 27 degrees celcius (80-81 F) 24/7/365, a bit on the high side for Kois, but I believe it is manageable.

ive actually been wondering about this to. my 2in silver has about grown out of his tank already and i need to put him in my koi pond soon. Also I have a black aro which will go into the silvers tank after, then the when he reaches the same size.

the part im concerned about is feeding. The kois are very aggressive when i throw food in. They eat all the pellets within 20 seconds(these guys are always hungry).

So if i throw in my aro pellets, im sure the koi will prob get to it first. My aro eats about 50 pellets a day. how would you guys feed koi/aro pond? my aro doesnt like the saki hikari koi food.

I would feed the koi first and then they won`t be so excited when you feed the aros.
thats what I`ve been doing for a while now and no problems. The aros will learn to be a little faster thats all

my advise from my own experiance, is seperate them asap. I put an arowana in my pond and they kept on following it around and it eventually died.
