I have posted a thread of my progression of my fader flowerhorn. His KOK randomly on day bulged out like crazy for like a week. I fed him shrimp and new spectrum so packed with good protein. This week I didn't feed him any and his KOK became noticeably smaller.

But now it went down a bit. I shined bright light in it and seems to be a little bit of water kok but I am not sure.
By decreasing his protein intake decrease his nuchal hump? Was it hormonal change that made his kok big? He shows no signs of spawning with any of my females.

That is due to the protein only! I do not think any hormonal changes but that is due to the protein intake.. Mine is having the same issue when I stop feeding the "protein bars" like shrimp and Krill.. So I am sticking with one time a day with either Krill or Shrimp.. But a day fasting on Saturday.. The tough day for me as he always asks for the food on fasting day.. ! poor guy.!

The only thing is why it's fluctuating making me nervous about his health. He's still the same but I can tell he's hungry. Well he's always hungry he's the biggest pig of a fish I've seen ever.

I have this ugly flowerhorn I got for free I need to get rid of.. Lol

Shift the ugly one over a lighter substrate so it's not hiding it's colors from you and it won't be so ugly anymore.

Yeah that's guys I know it's because of the sand but when I got her the guys tank had white sand as well and looked a littler better.
Here's another pic
