Glad my wife can't do that.

 My thoughts exactly....But what if????nah....

Crazy. I went and saw the komodos over the summer, they had one adult (female) and a few young 'uns. Didn't realise that bunch wasn't from the mother. Cheers for link - "nature will find a way". They must think its christmas there!

I love how they play it off as RARE - oh wait, it happend at the same zoo earlier. :screwy:

Some reptiles (as well as sharks) store sperm until a time when having the young is better suited. It's not that unusual.

Complete virgin birth isn't that new either in reptiles. I'm not sure why this is so shocking.

Did it happen before, i cant remember? It's just news and they apparently didn't know that self fertilization happened in Varanus Komodoensis

Are'nt Komodos endangered???If so, I am happy to hear that such events are happening...It's funny...A lfs in the early 90's was under surveliance due to the exploitation of baby Komodos...He actually was a godd friend to the family and helped out a lot on our tanks...Now only if they can do something about that 6ft Phillipine dragon....

Parthenogenesis isn't totally new. REPTILES ran an article about a year ago about a scaless Northern Water snake that gave birth to a clutch through parthenogenesis.
