So i was thinking about breeding kribs, im using pellets to feed my bichirs so its just an occasional live treat, and i love their behaviour. Im getting mixed information on breeding them and would just like to get all the information and i trust the knowledge of the members here!

setting up 1 breeding pair in a 20G long

So how difficult is it to find a breeding pair?
is gravel okay or do i need to get more sand?
I have pots
i know i need dither fish but what would be some good ones?
and lastly do you think i could keep a pleco in there, totally just curious if it would mind its own space or if the kribs would eventually attack it

THANK YOU and sorry about all the questions

If you mean P. pulcher it is normally very easy to find a breeding pair since the male and female are easy to differentiate and they are one of the species that is usually harder to keep FROM spawning than to get to spawn! :) You can often find pairs in dealer tanks. A 20 long should be fine for them, and I'd probably use a few danios or similar species as dither, because sometimes, though rarely because they are good parents, the male can become rough on the female if there's nothing to take some of his attention from her.

I personally wouldn't try the pleco out of concern for the eggs, although kribs can be ferocious in defense of their brood. I prefer to play it safe. Maybe some corydoras? Pots should be fine for them, though I've read that they prefer wood.

I've had them successfully raise fry in every community tank I've had pairs in, even one 20 long that was way over-stocked. I was 13 years old and thought the fuller the better, and had all kinds of cats, cichlids, labeos, barbs and tetras in there...the kribs disappeared under a plastic rock setup and when I saw them again they had young.

The male would drive off the pleco and Raphael cat, both which were at least twice his size, and every other fish that came near. Many of those young survived to be traded to the lfs! :)

My Kribs have been a "Just add water for fry" fish. I was going to buy a wild pair of the lesser known kribs but have yet to do so.
