Christmas morning brought the arrival of some 12 or so fry,,,,,both parents are protecting the little fellows,,,,,,,do they normally have more than that?,,,,,,,what should i feed them?

yeah 12 is not very many. what else is in the tank?

you can feed them pretty much anything already, they have a good size on them as young. (my kribs have just bred this week too. i have about 40 fry, just add water) you can feed crushed flake and brine shrimp. daily small water changes of about 10% will help them to grow faster if you plan to sell them

There are 7 cherry barbs and 12 neons in the tank as dither fish for the kribensis,,,,,,,I think maybe i sucked some up b/c i done a water change the day before i noticed them,,,,,will be more alert next time,,lol,,,,,,how long before they breed again ??

could be as soon as 4 weeks. its not uncommon. one breeder in wales that has kribs ( we do swaps for good lines) has some at 4 weeks old and new eggs from the same parents, neons are a great choice for tank mates they really help keep the kribs in open water. other wise when you approach all kribs will move for cover.. the barbs will eat the fry but to be honest i doubt the adults would let them close enough.

I suppose newly hatched Artemia or Cyclops would do..

Congratulations on the new babies, but kribs are african cichlids (undersandable confusion though, most people think of only rift lake species when they think of Africans) and this is the South/Central American forum. Not trying to be a jerk, just pointing it out. Good luck with them!

yes, i know they are african cichlids,,,i noticed the mistake after i posted ,lol,,,anyways the count is down to 7 now

Let me congratulate on the spawn it shows that your doing things right .

If this is their first spawn it's not uncommon for the parents to eat some if not all of the fry. Don't worry of this happens they will get better at it each time they spwan.
