I currently have one wild yellow kribensis (male), awaiting the arrival of a female (not wild type), in the hopes of breeding. The male has been situated in a 10 gallon tank with one other wild yellow kribensis (which i had believed to be female, but as they grew, began showing more signs of being male) which I have returned to the fish store. The male is extremely shy, to the point where the tank looks empty for the majority of the day aside from trumpet snails and a single ottocinclus catfish. I heard that smaller fish will help them become less shy and venture out from amongst the floating mass of java fern and driftwood centerpiece in the tank. I was wondering what are some recommended species. Being that the tank is going to be used strictly for breeding purposes, I definitely do not want any species that (1) will prey upon eggs or fry, and (2) will not need a special diet (i.e. catfish that need sinking pellets, etc.)
I was thinking in the ways of a small school (maybe 3 or 5 pencilfish (something really small that doesn't take up a lot of space) or neon tetras or rasboras, etc since I know I'm pushing the limit keeping a pair of kribs in a 10 gallon already.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Oh, and the fish shouldn't be able to be eaten by the kribensis too, so maybe my examples above won't work? I'm not sure.
