I am thinking about putting kribensis in my 29g tank. I have found only that 29g is about as small of a tank as they should be in. Is this tank big enough? How many could I have?

I just got three Krib's about 2 weeks ago. I put them in my 20 gal quarantine tank. Planned on moving them to my 40 Gallon. They were acting "strange" today. One female was hiding behind the filter and one was missing. Finally I found the missing one. She found a small cave in the corner of a "house" that I have in the tank. She came out and I could see in the corner of the cave edge a bunch of eggs. Now I get it. They spawned. They were keeping the other female up behind the filter guarding their eggs....

So. I pulled the unhappy hiding female and put her in her intended tank and started some investigation on what I have happening.... Looks like one page I saw said you could have them in a 10 Gallon. I guess it all depends on how many you are planning on putting in though.... One thing they did mention is to provide lots of caves.

Not sure if this helps, but I saw your post and thought I'd tell you what I found out today. Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I realize now this post is probably in the wrong section. If I only had a pair in my 29g, could I have a small school of tetras or something with them?

Yes. Give them caves and plants(artificial or live). Make sure there is some open area at the top half for the tetras to swim away in.

I also have a crayfish in my 10g that I would PREFER to be in my 29g. Ik crays don't mix well with cichlids but does that go for dwarf cichlids as well? He's much too big for them to eat and they're too big for him to eat. Will the kribs kill him when he molts? Thoughts?

I have a 4" blue crayfish in my Larger Cichlid Tank. I have "Red Empress" suppose to be "semi aggressive". Shockingly they don't bug him and he does not bug them. Sometimes they investigate him and he wards them off, but no kills yet.

When he get's bigger, I plan on putting rubberbands meant for braces on his claws. I don't want to risk it. Especially with Dwarf Cichlids, I think this might be a gamble.

When my crayfish molts he finds a good hiding place and even the larger cichlids don't eat him.

Interesting...because I would like to free up my 10g and breed some guppy fry for my new pair of kribs. I'll probably make the move and if my cray and kribs start to go at it I'll just drop the cray into his old tank...fully stocked with delicious guppies for him.

haha im shore he would love that but never the less its a very risky gamble that i wouldnt take as it can easily be to late before you can move him ive learnt that alot happens when the light goes off :nilly:

29 Gallon would be fine. If you want to breed, then a 29 gal would only house 1 breeding pair. My kribs would clean out half of a 90 gallon tank when they were breeding. My severums and silver dollars were never happy about that.
