I am interested in painting a colored acrylic sheet background that is glued in my acrylic aquarium (going from blue to black). I just saw that Krylon Fusion has a brush-on version which would be great to avoid spraypaint. Is this also aquarium safe? I've used the spraypaint version before with no problems. Currently the tank is being set up and is several months from water. My concerns are:

1) Is the brush on version aquarium safe just as the spray paint version?

2) They say no sanding required, but scuffing the acrylic is probably still a good idea?

3) If several coats are applied and it is allowed to cure properly (more than a week), when algae grows on the paint will an algae pad chip or peel away the paint?

I'm very interested if it won't look patchy in 6-12 months.

Surprised no one has tried this yet, guess I'll have to track down a can and give it a shot on a test piece. Already have this question in with the company and no response so far...

Keep us posted on how this works out. I just used Krylon Fusion High Gloss Black on my durso standpipes, but my tank is not set up yet. I'm very curious to see how it holds up. I would think that after a while it would start to chip, especially if you are scraping algae off of it, but I have no idea.

I am having trouble even finding it. Tried Lowes, HD, Michaels, can't find it online to buy, only one more place to check out tomorrow (Sherwin Williams), then I will have to forfeit this idea without being able to test. :irked:
