Kuhli mis-coloration?

I've got two small-ish Kuhli loaches in a 20 gal tank along with a sprinkling of other fish and they have been doing fine for as long as I've had them (~2.5 weeks). However, a few days ago I noticed that one of them seems to have lost some coloration on one side of his body. Any ideas as to what might cause such a thing? Is it genetic? An injury? I'll post a pic as soon as I figure out how to do it here....

If it was hereditary, the color would have disappeared earlier. No, I don't think so. Do you have sharp objects in your tank?

I had some clam shells in my tank and the Kuhli's liked to hid under them. It's possible that it scraped its self on the shell's edge. I took the shells out last weekend during a tank cleaning, so if that was the problem, it's rectified. Other than the shells there is a fake plant and a large plastic driftwood decoration, neither of which have sharp edges.

It is also possible that the little guy just beat himself up. They are very sensitive to light and if they are out when the tank light is turned on, they freak.

True.:)

The first time I turned on the light at night with them in the tank I thought they were going to hurt themselves. Needless to say I didn't leave the light on for very long. Now i turn the lights in the room on first to give them a chance to hide before I blast the tank with florescence.

I guess I'll just keep an eye on them and see if any other strangeness appears.
