Kuhlii loaches or emerald catfish

either will work, just make sure there is enough cover for all. you'll probably see the cories a bit more. both need 4-6 fish to be happy, the more the merrier.
 
IMO go with Emerald Catfish as they don't hide 24/7. Kuhli loachs are very attractive but they always hide.

mnie sometimes hide, but not much more than the cories.

not a couple if you want your fish to be happy. minimum of 3. 4 would be better. in the wild these guys can hang together in groups of 100+.
 
I owned probably over 10 of Kuhli Loachs in the past and they always hide. Even at various LFS too so what is the point to have a fish that you won't see? Which that is why I encouraged her to getting Emerald catfish.
 
In a large school kuhliis have always been active for me. Only when they are spooked is when they they hide. Im looking at them right now in their little herd moving across the tank grazing on the sinking food. But thats my experience.

Ok so tomorrow on my way back to my house in tampa im going to stop at the lfs and pick up some emerald catfish finally after 2 weeks of waiting lol
