I've seen pics of these in a magazine, and a couple online, and was curious if there is any info on their care in the aquarium out there, other than just the whole story of their unique breeding habits. They seem rare, are they impossible to get in the U.S. ?

I have never seen them imported. Even uin Ausralia they are poorly known in the hobby though they are a local food fish, especially on the Adelaide river system. One problem is that they are not realy impressive until they get about 18", they max out around 25"

Chances are, if you see any Kurtus species available in the US, it'll probably be K. indicus from SE Asia. I believe Barra did an indepth study on them (including the eggs and young). I'm sure a google on 'Kurtus' will locate the info for you.

That is a shame, considering that it seems like an interesting oddball.

thanks for the info guys, I'll check it out

well, they come from new guinea, the nearest export from that region is a company in indonesia, so the chances are slim that you'll see that fish. its been on my wish list for a while as well.
