far far away
I have an L-001 pleco that has a ripped up dorsal fin. I got him 5 days ago.
He is in a 29g and going to be moved to a 55 in a month. He is with about 15 fish none which bother him or are bg enough to damage him. Could he be not eating and haveing his fins deterierate or is it just from sharp decorations. Could you guys tell me how to heal his fin thanks.:)

His fins will heal fine. They would not deteriorate from lack of eating. Might look up fin rot, just to be certain it isn't that.

My first thought was fin-rot. Just to be safe, throw him in a Q-tank and add a little conditioning salt. Very small daily water changes will help the healing process, regardless of what the problem is.

good luck

Salt and Melafix...yay!! Salt for sure, raise the temp up a little if its possible. Give it a few cocktail shrimp once a week to give it a little give it a little more protien. Do you have any abrasive rocks in the tank? Its possible it might tear its fins when it goes into its hidy hole.

Just make sure it's not fin rot and it's fins will grow back soon.

I take it its just the membrane, not the dorsal spines? If it is it would only be fin rot, tear from ornaments, or other fish nipping. Is it just on the dorsal? If its not fin rot, it'll grow back just fine even without salt/melafix (although it can speed it up, but theres no point if your water quality is good).
