Hello,

I was thinking of purchasing a few of these but planetcatfish lists the ideal pH to be 5.0-6.5. My is around 7.4 and I was wondering how sensitive and hardy this pleco is. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of someone keeping these in harder water? Thanks for any help ahead of time.

Regards,

Scott

It should effect them to much as they are rather hardy. Even living in low 60 temps. I would still dip line acclimate them to your water for a while.

They will be fine. My 7 are in tank with a p.h. of 7.2 no issues at all. Just use airline and acclimate them slow you'll be fine. Good luck

I am currently keeping 3 in a heavily planted apistogramma tank. Their pH is between 7.2 - 7.4 right now. I've heard that they are very sensitive to low oxygenation.

Also i should mention that I have 3 out of the original 5 that i purchased still living. My friend also bought 5 from the same shipment at the LFS and they have all since died. I'm assumming that the shippment wasn't of the best health, but its something to think about. They do haev a reputation as one of the more sensitive ancistrus

once acclimated they are supposed to be pretty tough. Just make sure you get them from a good supplier or you can get F1s
