Hi,
Ive been offered juvie L. Elongata from a lfs. I am worried that they may be another Leptobotia species. Are there any sure fire ways to identify between the species?
Thanks in advance

Don't buy unless you are very serious, particularly if they are L. elongata.
By serious I mean experienced, capable, resourced and prepared to make a viable attempt to breed.
it's a rare species that should be considered endangered. IMO It's a different sort of responsibility to hold or own.
What shop?

they're elongata, as there is an influx of them, and pelligrini is almost non existant right now in the wild. soon they'll both be extinct.,

Fugupuff,
Is a price range of $100 for 5" to 6" a good deal in your opinion? There is a cluster in qt right now and be available for purchase to the general public soon at one of my lfs.

Dollars or Pounds?
Either way, this seems irresponsibly cheap. Nobody without serious inclinations (and gear) towards breeding should have access, and that access is best policed by resources: price (in my opinion). In that I recon they need to go up by an order of magnitude.

I say this as we're working on (well, thinking through) ways to resuscitate the Jamaican Iguana, one of the most endangered vertebrates there is, using international collectors and the pets industry. We're looking to charge US $30-50G per breeding pair (includes PIT tags & genetic tracking, facilitation, policing and perks) and we've got takers already.

IE: BUY SEVERAL and use what you've "saved" to build them a Powerhead-driven riffle-pool creek-tank that wraps around your sitting room.
Then buy a couple more and sen'em down ;)
