I am looking for a new L number to go in my Cichlid tank i did have a L301 Para Pleco, but died, would like to have another one but also one more plec maybe be a L014Scobinancistrus aureatus.

I have an L027 Royal Pleco in with my Africans...the ph is a little hight for his natural habitat but he is perfectly fine in there. He eats a ton of carrots and zuchini on a weekly basis. He is extremely messy though as far as waste production. Beautiful fish and I'm very glad I have him. I also a common pleco who takes care of algae where as the Royal doesn't eat much.

Thanks for posting...

I have an African Cichlid tank with Peacocks, Julli's, Yellow Labs, Haps, Tangs, etc. I have a little bristlenose, a small simple tiger pleco (those little guys that are like $5), an L236, L200, and a Gold Nugget. Can't remember the L number for the GN

The Phantom is about 5 inches long and has no fear. He goes where he wants and nobody messes with him. The GN got his tail fin pretty shredded. But then he chose to hide underneath the top of the breeding site for two J. Transcriptus. He has since found a new place to hide and even comes out when I feed the fish. The L236 hid for about a month. Wrote him of actually (he was the first L I put in my African tank). Then one say I spotted him. He has been poking his nose out lately as well when the lights are on.

3 nights ago I took a disk of Zucchini and anchored it to some lead weights and dropped it in the tank. The next morning it had been gnawed on just a bit. The next morning it was completely gone, skin and all. Put more in last night. Same thing so far. Gnawed on a bit last night. We'll see what happens tomorrow morning. Otherwise I don't do much special.

Just take your time acclimating them to the water. Take a long time. I floated them with the bags open. I added literally about a half an ounce of water from the tank to the bag every 10 minutes for about 30 minutes and then maybe an ounce or two ever few minutes for another 30 minutes before I dropped them in the tank.

Here are a couple of pics of the Phantom and the GN to show the crushed coral and black sand substrate and some Africans

kind of double wrong section. this is the african cichlid section. Plecos are in the bottom dwellers and since you're looking for a new one try the buy/sell section.

nice pleco, hope ya find one.

I don't have any problem with it in here. It's specifically related to the subject of the sub-forum. Better to hear from African Owners that have L Plecos in their tanks than L owners that suppose that a certain L will go well with Africans.

I agree, you first have to know what has a "proven success" rate among Africans. Good luck and you can find a lot of success stories to share with us...

Good Luck, again if you are interested in the Royal Pleco it is a great fish.

The Royal Pleco, (L027) is a "driftwood" lover so keep that in mind.

I found a Scobinancistrus but is in a soft water set up, so might be to much of a water change for the plec?

Don't most plecos like soft acidic water? Like I said, just slowly acclimate it and once it's in the tank make sure the PH and hardness don't fluctuate too much....

I keep L104, L190 ,L066, and dwarf BN. All doing great except the L066 hides all the time. My Royal is the best.

That was a crappy pic. I think this one is a little less blurry.

My water is, pH 7.2 - 7.4, pretty hard (need to test again)
