While I was doing a water change on my ocellatus tank tonight, I noticed about a half dozen fry hanging out around the lip of one of the shells. What do I do?? Anything special need to be done? Can I just leave the fry with the parents or should I put them in another tank. Any info would be great. Thanks

Start hatching some brine shrimp. As soon as they are swimming freely around the shell take them out and move them to their grow out tank. Ocellatus are not as good parents as Multifasciatus for example; they will never form large colonies.

They are already free swimming but they only swim around their mothers shell. They are also eating ground up flake food already. When ever I walk up to the tank they scurry back in.

they will all live and grow up together or you can put shell in another tank shell dwellers always want to be close to bottom so if you elevate the shell in the tank the adults will eventually leave and go to bottom of tank

You do not have to move them. They can stay for a bit longer. Any reason you want to move them? You can add some new shells into the tank and try to scare mom off.

Or move them to a new tank. Add some new shells and scare mom off. The trick of putting them in a tank high can work, but I have often found that it takes a lot of shaking to finally get them out. With little ones in there it could be tough on them. If you have time to sit and hold the shell a while it can work.

I grew some brevis out in a 2.5 for a while with some success.

I don't want to move them out of the tank if I don't have to. Just wasn't sure if I should or not. There are only 5 adults in the tank now. Its a 37gal. So adding more shells and leaving them in there, that would only increase the size of the colony. I guess in the long run, as long they don't beat the crap out of each other, they should be fine.
