I decided to take out the synodontis and take stock of my L114 grow out tank. Its been 6-12 months since I put them in. I was surprised that all 8 were still alive. They have grown an inch or two to 6"-8" and some have gotten very fat. It looks like I have at least a few females. They haven't spent any time in the breeding caves yet. I'll probably loose a couple when breeding activity starts in a year or two. They are fed NLS and spirulina and now have a 180G all to themselves. I will probably put in a few small dither fish so the tank doesn't look completely empty.

How many females do you think there are? Some are too small to tell for sure and some may just be fat males.

Good Luck! I tried a trio in a 125 for 4 years then finally gave up. I had an 11 inch male and two females that were 9 inches. They were in the caves a few times and bite marks on the females back. The male killed one of the females one night and shredd the fins of the other a week later. I ended up giving the male to someone on this site and sold the female. They are cool plecos nonetheless and never hid as adults. They are owner responsive as adults also.
