i've been contemplating ordering a L114 from snookn but then i found one at my LFS across the street for $30 a about 2-3". the guy said he'd hold it for my for a few days. i've been reading up on them and heard they can be aggressive towards other plecos. i've got a 125g with a 4.5" BN pleco, 4" L191, and a 3" clown pleco. would he be aggressive towards them? if so i could always put in my 55g.

also i've been reading on diet. planet catfish say's meaty foods, i've read on here people saying veggies, some say they wont touch veggies. also do they require alot of wood?

lastly, hows their growth rate? again i've read 1-2" a year, others said they grow pretty fast.

thanks

That price sounds decent. The can be agressive and territorial. IMO it could be a risk to mix those plecos. I have one that will eat veggies and one that wont touch them. I dont believe they need wood for dietary purposes (although I still have it in the tank). I have seen about an inch in approx. 8 months in my smallest I bought at 2" and pretty beat up when I got him.

That is a pretty good price. They are definately carnivores. I feed mine NLS and salad shrimp. Mine is 8inches and grew from 2 inches to 8 in about 2 years. They like a cave and will not look for trouble but will defend a hiding spot. mine will ignore most fish except some bottom dweller that he sees as a threat. Mine does not get along with other plecos too well. With all his hooks and spines he usually gets his way. Again ignores small 2 inch barbs in his tank. Well worth any trouble he causes because he is a very cool looking fish and fun to watch. Enjoy yours!

L114's are my favorite pleco, so definitely pick him up.

Compatibility shouldn't be a problem, but what concerns me is nutrition. L114's may eat vegetables, but mainly meat. I would seperate the L114 so that he gets what he needs so your other plecos don't overload on protein.

Growth rate depends on feeding and space. My guys grow at about 1 to 2" a year, but like what I said, they may grow slower or faster depending mainly on feedings.

Good luck and I hope you pick him up if you haven't done so already!

I had a L114 in w/ a king tiger and a queen arabesque and all three did great. Had em together for almost a year before i sold the queen, then maybe 6 mo later, sold the king tiger, and just recently, sold the L114 for 30 bucks. Neat pleco, but my son wanted to keep the L200 so the 114 had to go.
