L114 Vs Sailfin

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im guessing you are getting confused with some common names and L-numbers.

L114 is the L-number for Pseudacanthicus cf. leopardus and "Sailfin" is a common name used for several of species of Pterygoplichthys.

Yes, L114 has red on dorsal and caudal fin. Sailfin doesn't. L114 is lighter with a leopard pattern.

Both are aggressive, go for the L114. I think sailfin gets bigger. Between the two go for the L114. Snookn21 has baby L114 for $15 a piece and larger ones for $30.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to go w/ L-114. Can anyone tell me how fast they grow. I can only find small ones at this time. Lfs told they don't get large L-114s in because they don't adapt to tank life well?
Is this true? How many can I put in to a 180g tank?

They are slow growers and max out around 12 inches. Can be very agrressive. The sailfin can max out around 18 inches. L-114 are rarer and carnivores. While the sailfin or gibby is a vegitarian. I currently own a 10 inch L-114 and is my favorite fish. I have him in a 70 with some black bar silver dollars. I can't keep any other plecos in with him. With all his hooks and spines he gets his way. He ignores the silver dollars and a small BN pleco which is only 2 inches. Any pleco of considerable size he will not tolerate. I know some people that keep gibbys together without any issues.
