l18 gold nugget

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
stability is generally more important than the actual ph value (so long as its not too high), 8 or just under will be fine for a bn, anything much over 8 and i wouldn't put one in. all of my plecs are in water with a ph from 7.6- 7.8

any issue with this pleco and high ph around 8?

if ur doing african with that.. i suggest u dont trouble urself with the risk.. Gold nugget are very sensitive fish and amazon water's pH never get as hard as 8.0, they do best in soft 6.5-7.8...

I'm not sure about the pH and stuff but I do know that I had a gold nugget and couldn't get him to eat anything and he died. I tried everything from wafers to veggies and he didn't want anything. I thought that this was a problem due to me being new to fish keeping but I have heard others with the same problem. They are very pretty and I'd like to own another one but I'm afraid the same thing will happen. Let me know how it goes with your pleco. =)

Gold nuggets aren't much help with algae. They're more on the carnivorous side and prefer scraps of food and biofilm. I strongly suggest lotsa driftwood (grows great biofilm), good current, the odd veggie, lotsa hiding spots, and a very well established/stable tank.

My tap water ranges between 7.8-8.2.My gold nuggets lived the last 2 years in a hole in a limestone rock on my frontosa tank.Stable clean water and good food and they will be fine.
Just moved them to a planted angel tank with driftwood so they are in a more natural environment now.
