hi there guys in your experience what is the maximum size you have owned or seen a green phantom at? There seems to be a lot of conflicting views onto the Internet with size ranges from 6"-11"+ one site has there max size as 28cm which is more then 11", the biggest I've ever owned was 7" or 18cm, I ask because I have a chance to buy 5 for silly cheap and don't want to buy if I can't keep them long term. Many thanks

Well I hope they don't get to big as I've decided to take them, got 5 small ones around 2"-3" for £75 just to cheap to refuse one of my lfs wanted rid of them, I can only give them a 125g as my 3 larger tanks are occupied and will be for the foreseeable future, I've never seen one bigger then 7" hope I'm right or I will have to move some on in the future

I dont see 5 in a 125 being a problem. Feed them well and give them plenty of caves and crevices between rocks to claim and you should be good.

Yeah that was my thoughts as well, but I thought if they get to say 10"-11" each ( I've never ever seen one anyware even close to that) then things may start to get a bit cramped as they can get territorial apparently, personally I've never seen one bigger then 7"-8" but some care sheets say they can get way bigger, I'm not sure as I have very little experience with phantoms

I've never seen one that large either. I have a couple but mine are only around 6 inches.
But, even if they were to reach that size, you would still be okay in a 125.
You can always pull a couple later if it becomes an issue.

Which l200? I've seen hemiancistrus subviridis that were a solid 6". I currently have a baryancistrus demantoides that's close to 8".

I'm not aware of either species hitting 10"-11" but anything's possible. On the off chance yours get that big, it'll be a very very long time. They're fine in 125g.

I'm not sure which kind they are to be fair, my LFS only had them labelled only as L200 green phantom, they didn't have the scientific name unfortunately, 3 of them are around 4" and the other 2 are slightly smaller, they seem to be all settling in quite well thankfully

The key to tell these two apart is if the dorsal fin and the adipose fin are connected then it is Baryancistrus demantoides if the fins aren't connected then it is hemiancistrus subviridis
