So I work at a LFS, and a customer recently brought in a few plecos to trade in. None of my coworkers noticed anything out of the ordinary, but, as soon as I saw one that they thought was a "Clown Pleco", I recognized it as an Emperor Pleco. I picked up what I believe to be a male (still too young to tell for sure) at about 2-2.5" SL, for a whopping $4. I called around my area, and found another LFS just about an hour away with a few L204s at around 2" SL (according to an employee over the phone) for $25.99 apiece. I've been reading up on breeding these guys, looking at breeder reports, articles from magazines, and information along those lines, but I'm wondering if anyone here can give me any firsthand advice from experience. I've bred multiple varieties of Bristlenose before, I've had various Clowns, and I'm keeping L191 Royals in a few separate tanks, so I'm not inexperienced with L-cats, but I'm looking to step it up to another level. I was planning on keeping them in a 29G tank to grow them out a bit. The tank is set to have a sand substrate, and AQ 110 filter and a small powerhead, lots of Malasian driftwood, rockwork/slate caves, and maybe some Indian Almond Leaves.
Any advice/thoughts? Thanks!
