Hey everyone, I have a 7 to 8 inch L25 and I've had him about 2 weeks. I have him in a 20 gallon long aquarium all by himself with plenty of flow. There is a big piece of driftwood he likes to hide under but he has not eaten anything yet. Any suggestions for types of food or reasons he is not eating? I have tried frozen scallops and frozen silversides and left both in the tank overnight in hopes he will take it at night, but he just ignores it. He will be going in a bigger tank once he starts eating. I just got him and this is his quarentine tank. Ideas anyone? Thanks!

I've only kept a small Pseudacanthicus L273 for about 6 months (or there about) so there are others who more 'qualified' to answer than me on this subject. I found that prawns and brine shrimp pellets (5mm) were readily eaten. I've also seen mussels and Tetra prima eaten recently by one in a shop.

If it's a wild caught fish then you kind of have to 'teach' it what is food. If it's already acclimatised to aquariums then try to find out what the previous keeper fed it. You just need to be persistent and try as much as you can, without declining the water quality. You mention that the tank has plenty of flow, perhaps it is pushing the food away from the fish and it's still too nervous to find it. If you can find a way for the fish to be surrounded by food then there's a better chance it will find it.

Pseudacanthicus usually accepts live bloodworm, after it starts eating you can train it to eat massivore pellets and algae wafers

Try some frozen krill.

Is the tank new or has it been running for long?

Are you treating for internal parasites? Might want to start.

It may need some time to acclimate.
Also, supposedly garlic is an appetite stimulant. You may want to try rubbing cut garlic on whatever food you're going to feed it (krill, shrimp, etc). There is also garlic extract; you can try soaking the food in it. I used NLS Thera A+ pellets, which have garlic in it to get my L114s to eat.
