I have been looking for a reasonable l25. I have seen several specimens < than 3.5 inches. They all have had brown fins instead of scarlet. Do they change color as they age or do they remain the same color? Thanks for answering my questions.

Mine had red fins at 3.5 inches.

It comes down to genetics but the LFS call it quality.

All red fins at a small size 2"+ are called 7 pointers. The ones you see are not going to change much.

I have seen specimens for sale that have color change at all fins but the color is just not that typical scarlet. It has been brown to yellowish. If the color were scarlet, the specimens would be ridiculous. I was hoping it was just a function of age. Correct me if I am wrong, but what you all seem to be saying is that their is no dimorphism from the juvenile animal as compared to the adult.

THanks for your help.

By scarlet you mean the red colour on all the fins? If it does not show this as a youngster chances are it will not change as an adult.

As for telling a male from female there are ways to sex them. From what I have seen colour means nothing. Males and females can be 7 pointers.
