They are territorial. there was a 2' one in my lfs that lived with a big 1' plus asian upside down catfish and a bunch of angels and discus in a 300 gallon. they are territorial towards similar looking fish but they actually get on well with a variety of tankmates
 
Had one that was about 20". Meanest cuss there was. He took great pleasure in attacking everything I tried to comm him with. Some potential tankmates were fine only until the lights were turned off.
 
They're prone to ich outreaks after sudden temp changes. Wouldn't recommend them for an outdoor pond that may experience more then a couple degree transition during any 24 hour period.
 
Nice pick up. Not a lot I can add to what has already been said. Mine is good with anything less than 12", as soon as anything passes that mark, they are prone to a beating on a regular basis. I lucked out a bit in that mine is not excessively aggressive, she will beat on stuff, but rarely kills anything. She did kill an 18" cigar shark that was a new addition. My mates one used to kill stuff on a regular basis.

Here is mine, about the same size as yours by the sounds of it.
