About a year ago I bought 5 ryukins for breeding stock. Four have reached 16 grams each and yet one is still weighing in at 9 grams. Is it just growing to it's genetic potential or is something wrong? Are there routine medications you treat fish with in quarantine since almost every other fish has a disease?

Quarantine does not involve any medications. It's purpose is to monitor the fish for any signs of disease/infection. If the new fish show no signs of disease, after a predetermined amount of time, they're released into the general community. If a disease is discovered, the quarantine tank becomes a treatment tank and the required treatments/medications are administered.

As to the growth rate of your fish, genetics is the likely candidate for why this fish is experiencing slow/low growth. It's the luck of the draw with all of these man-made variants.

True, but there are instances where quarantine involves preventative medication (perhaps medication is not the correct term). i.e. treating for worms or other such nasties in wild caught fish.

Then it is no longer a quarantine tank, it becomes a treatment tank whenever any dosage of any medication is introduced to the tank. Preventive medication is just an alternate term for treatment.

True. Perhaps the OP was asking about preventative treatments.
