Yes, they turn red. Do you have any???? I have three juvies and can post some pix if you'd like to see them.

NOTE -- "Ladder" pikes are the same as Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo II" and DO NOT get as red as Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo I" despite also being referred to as fire pikes. It's very confusing to be honest.

EDIT----- Here are some pix for you to look at.

And here is what is believed to be the "true" fire pike - Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo I."

Here is an adult "ladder pike" aka Crenicichla sp. "Atabapo II."

Note also that this species of pike is highly susceptible to HLLE or HITH disorder. I keep mine in VERY DARK blackwater and do frequent water changes.......which reminds me......time to change their water :D

Very Nice Pike! What is it's range? Are they readily available in the trade?

Quite, mine have a fair amount of HITH that I am currently trying to 'reverse' as much as possible. My water parameters suck for blackwater species. Need to just move where you live Brian! LoL

BTW. . . my female is starting to get a reddish head. :D :D :D
