My 13 year old son is learning biology. What better than an dwarf cichlid/aquaponics project together? My oldest is writing a paper, not on the the nitrification cycle, but avoiding it all together. We build this project together (along with my 8 year old as well). I would have never thought such a neat little species could bring us closer, it's been a blast! Seriously if you have young ones, involve them it's very rewarding.
Such a lovely species, their purple colors have started coming in, I just had to share!

There is no biomedia in this tank or filter (mechanical AC50 only), only house plants.

^^^ This is was the second water change, of a six week test. Every 3 weeks another WC, ever week we test perams. 0, 0, 0.. Yeah zero nitrates. We are now slowly using my RO unit to find the perfect balance for the fish and plants. Disolved organics = WIN!
We have another 3 weeks to go. I'll let you guys know what he gets on his paper as well, lil MFK'er coming up in my house..
