I have a bare bottom 180 gallon for my cichla. I want good suction power and I dont mind the pump sitting in the aquarium. Thats the only thing In there minus a hanging branch from the top. Im looking to ditch the sump. Im sick of gunk laying around on the bottom and not making it into my DIY overflow. Any way, Anyone ever use this kit or any pond kit in there aquarium? I would like to know if this pump can pull in all my fish poo. Basically going to be a powerful OHF.

I think it will work great if you don't mind the big ol ugly intrusive pump.

Haha I don't mind, I want pristine water. Not a spec in the tank if I can help it. This will also give me like a 13 times turnover rate.

Why not get a circulation pump or two to help keep particles suspended?

I have a 900gph one running and also my return pump blowin close to 1500 gph. It's my DIY overflow that's not collecting it all. I suppose I could make another one but I'd rather have a closed system if I'm going to upgrade. My plan is to install the Laguna kit and place the pump where the poop collects. From there it will obviously go through the canister and be mechanically filtered also comes with a UV sterilizer. The return line is going to run into a box I will make that sits behind the tank full of all my existing bio media. Ill drill about 6 overflows out of that that drops back down in the tank when the box fills. I can section off an area in there as well for my heaters too. There will be a lid to prevent heat loss as well. Evaporation and heat loss is another issue of mine in my cold basement.
