laguna without cage

I want to run my sump with a submersible box as a pre-filter. would there be any issues with pulling my laguna 2400 out of its cage and connecting the intake to the flat box pond filter?

Several here have done that in their sumps with Laguna Pond box. I'll post link to their setup journals in a few.

I'm the second guy linked above...lol

I have 2 max flo 2000 pumps running without the cage. I'm running tetra pond boxes. The plumbing was a tad tricky but it is do able. Just take you connectors to Home Depot and try different things until the work. I have even seen them plumbed for external usage and they still operate perfectly.
