Lake Apopka - Orlando, FL

I'm going down to the Orlando area for a wedding next week and where I'm staying is a mile from Lake Apopka, specifically the Goose Neck spring side.

I know there used to be amazing fishing on this lake before it got so polluted, but is it good now?

The groom to be told me that fishing there is illegal, but I've heard or read no such thing and the guy is French and doesn't have a good command of the English language.

Thoughts?

Check myfwc.com to check on that. But really doubt it's illegal. Many lakes in fl are hard to fish without a boat but usually quite excellent.
