Lake fish disease

I live in miami and I have a lake in my backyard. If i catch a fish from the lake could i put him directly into my tank or should i treat him with something first.. Please help me i might want to add a peacock or jewel cichlid

If it looks sick maybe... thats a tough one, what kind of fish are you trying to catch?

Just use standard quarantine procedures. I do this all the time, I keep pretty much exclusively natives. The time in the QT will give any diseases time to surface, and also help the critter adjust to captivity. I hope your not planning on putting a pacu as small as the one in your avatar in a tank. He'll get picked on by the real pacu!

Lol no im planning on some peas maybe a mayan or jewel. That pacu couldnt even turn around in my 110 lol. How long do you usually quarentine them. I dont really have the means to do so for long.
