I just arrived on Lake Seneca here in upstate New York and was wondering if anyone could give me some help catching some of the fish here that i'm unfamiliar with. Apparently this is the Lake Trout capital of the world, a fish I have never angled for, and it has various Pikes, Carps and Pickerel that I would love to catch. Anyone who has experience with these species or even better with fishing this lake, your help would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to catch something worth showing the boys when I get home. The lake is huge, easily the biggest I have ever seen, shaped like a finger from above and has depths of over 600 ft. I believe the mean depth is about 200 ft. There seems to be all the other types of species I am familiar with, Bass, Bluegill, Catfish etc... and although I can catch them at home any local knowledge of rigs and spots would make me look good fishing with the kids. I have access to a 12 ft. jon boat, but since we got here last night I haven't took it out yet, just chucked a few off the dock to see whats up. By the way I saw a 2-3ft. carp right off that dock the first time I walked out there. Heres a few shots I took of the backyard and dock, this is awesome, I got to live off a lake someday. Thanks for any help, I'll check back after I drown a few worms out back.
